M.R.S. Mission
Musicians Repair Service is an instrument repair facility
whose mission is to provide quality repairs so that professionals, amateurs,
educators, and student musicians can attain their highest level of performance.
It is also committed to provide a safe, healthy, and profitable work place for
its technicians and employees. The company motto is:

M.R.S. Shop
M.R.S. is one of the most distinct repair shops for musical
instruments. We have an extensive machine shop with fabrication capabilities,
including welding, milling, media buffing/blasting, and custom finishes
(including powder coating). The wood working shop is just as complete offering
everything from bar instrument frame repair to custom
flight cases. With the aid of computer frequency analysis our instrument
customizing extends from woodwind tone hole undercutting, to bar instrument
tuning, to microtonal instruments built to specifications. 2500 square feet of
repair facility and 1200 square feet of used parts storage, as far as we know
the most
diversified facility of its kind.
M.R.S. Technicians
JACK BUTCHER Jack is a graduate of the University of Akron where he
received his B.S. in Percussion Perform ance.
He has ten years of repair experience, is a clinician for Yamaha Corporation,
and a NAPBIRT (National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair
Technicians) Master Clinician
where he serves as the organizations Percussion Consultant. Jack is also trained
in string and brasswind instrument repairs which makes his approach to
percussion repairing unique. His shop also performs
custom fabrication projects from all over the world. Building micro tonal
instruments to the specifications of various composers and artists is the most
prestigious work that is produced from his shop. Recently, Jack performed repair
clinics at the West Point Military Academy, The Naval School of Music, the
NAPBIRT International Convention (clinics every year since 1989) and the 1994
P.A.S.I.C. convention which is available from CPP Media.
PETER LAVICTOIRE Pete has eighteen years repair experience and is a gr aduate
from the Allied School of Instrument Repair in Elkhorn Wisconsin. Pete is a
Woodwind and Brasswind Technician. He is known for his woodwind customizing
projects such as woodwind modernization and roller additions to prewar Heckle
and other bassoons, lost key manufacturing, and broken tenon replacement. His
brasswind projects include rekeying and configuring instruments, fourth valve
additions to three valve instruments, and Thayer valve conversions. He builds
many of the specialized tools used in the shop. Pete has been an active member
of NAPBIRT for more than fifteen years.
DOUG MCINERNEY attended the University of Akron and studied trumpet.
He receiv ed
his technical training at Western Iowa Technical School, one of the last
remaining instrument repair schools in the world. Doug as been in the music
business trade for many years and he knows countless tricks and tips to do the
job efficiently.

CHERRIE FINCH has a B.M. in Flute Performance from the University of
Akron, and a Masters in Flute performance from Western Carolina University where
she also studied for two years in flute and piccolo repairing and customizing
with Edward Spell. Cherrie does almost all of the small woodwind instruments
repairs in the shop. Cherrie recently attend the Strobenger Flute seminar and is
certified to install Strobenger pads.
